Disturbing details have emerged following post-mortem examinations on bodies recovered from a mass grave at Makaburini Cemetery.
Investigators have confirmed that:
- 4 children died from head injuries
- 10 died due to premature birth
- In 2 cases, the cause of death remains unknown
The revelations were made after a day-long forensic exercise led by pathologist Dr Njoroge, who described the findings as deeply troubling.
Details from the examination:
- 25 children were examined in the first phase
- 8 identified as male, 10 as female
- 7 could not be identified due to severe decomposition
- Some bodies were infants, with many in advanced stages of decay
“Prematurity as a cause of death, we found in 10, and then some sort of head injuries we found in 4,” said Dr Njoroge.
Autopsies on the remaining 8 adult bodies are set to continue as investigations intensify.
In total, 33 bodies were exhumed from the cemetery — a discovery that has sparked national outrage, especially after it emerged that a court order had only authorized the burial of 13 bodies.
Authorities are now racing to uncover the truth behind the mass graves, as pressure mounts for accountability.
