Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has assured Kenyans that the country will continue to have an adequate supply of petroleum fuel despite the ongoing tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Speaking at Tendeno Primary School in Tendeno/Soget Ward, Kipkelion East Constituency, the CS said the government has put in place measures to ensure a steady fuel supply in Kenya.
The remarks were made during the launch of the last-mile electricity connectivity project in the constituency.
“A major conflict has erupted in the Middle East between the US, Israel, and Iran. This war has caused widespread fear among citizens not just in Kenya, but across the world,” Wandayi said.
He reassured the public that the national government, under William Ruto, has developed comprehensive strategies to guarantee the availability of fuel both now and in the future.
“Regarding fuel, Kenyans should not worry. The national government has put in place comprehensive strategies to ensure that there is enough fuel today, tomorrow, and in the future,” he added.
Government-to-Government Fuel Supply
Wandayi revealed that the government is working closely with major international oil companies under a government-to-government supply arrangement to secure fuel imports.
Among the companies involved in the collaboration are Saudi Aramco, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, and Emirates National Oil Company.
According to the CS, the ministry’s primary responsibility is to ensure consistent fuel availability to support the country’s economic activities.
“We are cooperating with these companies to ensure that fuel in Kenya will not run out,” he said.
Warning Against Panic Buying
Wandayi also warned Kenyans against panic-buying fuel or storing it at home, saying such actions could pose serious safety risks.
He further noted that Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is expected to announce the next fuel prices for the country on Saturday.
The CS maintained that there would be no disruption in supply, assuring citizens that adequate fuel reserves are already in place.
