George Ruto, son of William Ruto, has expanded his growing public transport business after acquiring the popular Ongata Rongai matatu known as Baba Yaga, also nicknamed “John Wick.”
Expanding a Growing PSV Empire
The latest acquisition adds to George Ruto’s steadily growing matatu fleet, reinforcing his footprint in Nairobi’s vibrant public transport sector.
His entry into the industry began with the PSV Raptor, followed by MoneyFest, which gained attention for its unique branding and entertainment features.
He later added Matrix to his fleet—an eye-catching matatu inspired by the Hollywood blockbuster The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves.
‘Mood’ Matatu Redefines Luxury Travel
Among his most talked-about vehicles is Mood, widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most innovative matatus.
The PSV stands out for:
- Solar panel installation
- Luxurious bucket seats in a 25-seater layout
- A live onboard DJ deck
- A 65-inch television screen
- High-end sound system
- USB charging ports and LED ambient lighting
The design has been praised for redefining the “nganya” experience by blending transport with entertainment and comfort.
‘Baba Yaga’ Joins the Fleet
The newly acquired Baba Yaga matatu is a fan favourite along the Ongata Rongai route.
Its branding is inspired by the iconic assassin character from the John Wick franchise, also portrayed by Keanu Reeves.
The matatu features a distinctive dark and cream exterior, complemented by aggressive lighting effects that give it a bold, intimidating presence on the road.
Youth Investment in Transport Sector
George Ruto’s continued investment highlights a growing trend of young entrepreneurs tapping into Kenya’s matatu culture, blending business with creativity and modern technology.
His expanding fleet signals both commercial ambition and a shift toward more premium, experience-driven public transport services in the country.
