The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that 1,370,930 Kenyans have registered as new voters since the launch of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise on March 30, 2026.
Surge in New Voter Registrations
According to the commission, there has been a sharp increase in registrations in recent days, with 495,429 new voters added since the last update issued on April 9.
The figures reflect growing public participation in the electoral process, particularly among young and first-time voters.
Additional Voter Services Recorded
Beyond new registrations, the IEBC also reported:
- 92,602 voter transfers
- 1,969 updates to voter details
These services are part of the broader effort to ensure the voter register remains accurate and up to date.
Deadline Fast Approaching
With just 11 days remaining before the exercise concludes on April 28, the commission has urged all eligible Kenyans to register before the deadline.
Access Concerns After Exercise Ends
IEBC noted that once the ECVR exercise ends, voter registration will revert to office-based services, which may limit accessibility—especially for residents in remote areas and persons living with disabilities.
Call to Action
The commission is encouraging wananchi to take advantage of the ongoing mass registration drive while it is still accessible nationwide.
The ongoing exercise is seen as a critical step in strengthening democratic participation ahead of future elections.
