A 50-year-old married man who left home on a routine errand has been found dead under unclear circumstances, sparking investigations and raising questions about his final hours.
Man Found Dead in Girlfriend’s House
The deceased, identified as Julius Mwale, had informed his wife, Tasila Tembo, that he was stepping out to do casual work with a friend.
However, what seemed like a normal outing took a tragic turn when Mwale was later found dead inside the house of another woman believed to be his girlfriend.
Events Leading to His Death
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, Mwale had spent the evening socialising with friends before heading to the home of a woman identified as Anna.
The group reportedly shared a meal and consumed several small bottles of a potent locally brewed alcoholic drink. Police further revealed that Mwale had earlier been given a separate traditional beverage, the contents of which remain unknown.
Last Moments Before Tragedy
As the night progressed, Mwale’s friends left, but he chose to stay behind. He is said to have indicated he would spend the night at Anna’s home to help guard harvested maize—an arrangement common in rural farming communities.
At around 2 a.m., Anna reportedly woke up to unusually loud snoring from Mwale. When attempts to wake him failed, she raised alarm.
Discovery and Police Response
The village headman was notified and subsequently alerted Mwale’s family and the police.
Officers who responded to the scene found Mwale seated but unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations Underway
Authorities are yet to establish the exact cause of death, with questions surrounding the drinks consumed and the circumstances leading to the incident.
Police have launched investigations, and a post-mortem examination is expected to provide further clarity on the mysterious death.
