A postmortem examination conducted on Tuesday has established that Dr Job Obwaka died from cardiac arrest, family representatives have confirmed.

Speaking after the examination, family spokesperson Joseph Ndungu said the autopsy findings pointed to cardiac arrest as the cause of death, although further tests are still ongoing.

“However, a toxicology report is still being conducted to determine the exact cause,” Ndungu stated, adding that the family was satisfied with the findings released so far.

Dr Obwaka, a renowned gynaecologist and board member at The Nairobi Hospital, died at the age of 83.

He was widely recognised for his decades-long contribution to women’s healthcare and the medical profession in Kenya.

The defence team linked to the matter also welcomed the findings, saying they support their position regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

Dr Obwaka’s death came weeks after he had been charged alongside several others over allegations involving the falsification of records connected to the Kenya Hospital Association.

According to earlier reports, he had been arrested on March 14, 2026, at the NSSF Building parking area along Bishops Road before being detained at Muthaiga Police Station for three nights ahead of his arraignment in court.

The family said additional updates will be issued once the toxicology examination is completed.
