ODM leader Oburu Oginga has dismissed the possibility of forming a political alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election, declaring that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will only work with parties that share its values and vision.
Speaking during a massive ODM rally at Kirembe Grounds in Kisumu on Sunday, Oburu made it clear that he would not support any coalition arrangement involving Gachagua, signaling the party’s preferred political direction as preparations for the next election intensify.
According to Oburu, ODM is focused on building partnerships with political formations that are founded on equality, mutual respect, and shared interests rather than opportunistic alliances.
“We will work with parties that share our ideals and interests. Any coalition we join must treat ODM as an equal partner,” he said.
The veteran politician noted that ODM would first explore cooperation with parties it is already working alongside in government before considering broader political arrangements ahead of the 2027 polls.

Oburu used the rally to rally supporters behind ODM, insisting that the party remains strong and is already preparing for a major push to capture power in the next General Election.
He described the Luo community as the backbone of ODM and urged supporters to remain loyal to the party despite ongoing political realignments across the country.
“They are the pillar of ODM, and I’m telling them to remain the pillar of the ODM party. We are aiming for power in 2027, and we are going to make sure we defeat them,” Oburu told the cheering crowd.
Call for Unity Among ODM Supporters
The ODM leader also warned against attempts to divide the Luo community, arguing that unity has played a critical role in strengthening the region’s political influence and bargaining power over the years.
According to him, political success can only be achieved when communities remain united and focused on common goals.
Oburu further praised the huge turnout at the Kisumu rally, saying it demonstrated ODM’s continued popularity and strong support base in the region despite shifting political dynamics.
His remarks come at a time when political leaders are increasingly positioning themselves and forming alliances ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 General Election.
