A 32-year-old man has died while two other people sustained serious injuries following a road accident involving an ENA Coach bus and a motorcycle along the Kisumu–Busia Road in Ugunja, Siaya County.

The crash occurred at around 6:50 a.m. at Ligega area when the motorcycle rider reportedly slowed down to avoid a pothole on the road, according to police.

Authorities said the bus, which was carrying 47 passengers and driven by Simon Masinde Mutsami, rammed into the motorcycle from behind, leading to the fatal collision.

The deceased, identified as George Omondi, was travelling as a pillion passenger and died on the spot due to injuries sustained in the impact.

The motorcycle rider, 30-year-old Idd Otieno, suffered severe head injuries. Police noted that he was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident.

Also injured was 15-year-old Faith Atieno, a student at Sega Mission School, who was travelling as a pillion passenger. She sustained multiple head injuries during the crash.

The two injured victims were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment as medical personnel worked to stabilize their condition.

Police have launched investigations into the incident, which was formally reported at Ugunja Police Station.

The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety along the busy Kisumu–Busia highway, where motorists and riders have repeatedly raised concerns about potholes and other hazardous road conditions contributing to crashes.
