The High Court has temporarily suspended a decision by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requiring Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia to pay a KSh1.5 million fine.
In interim orders issued by the court, the judge stayed the implementation of the IEBC’s judgment delivered on July 10, 2026, pending the hearing and determination of Muhia’s application challenging the decision.
“That in the meantime, pending the hearing and determination of the application, an order is hereby issued staying the judgment/determination of the 2nd Respondent issued on 10 July 2026,” the court order states.
The ruling means the electoral body’s decision will not be enforced until the High Court hears and determines the legislator’s application.
Muhia moved to the High Court seeking to stop the implementation of the IEBC’s decision, arguing that the judgment should not take effect before the court considers the merits of her challenge.
The case will now proceed to a full hearing, where the court is expected to determine whether to uphold, vary or set aside the IEBC’s decision.
