Police officers from Kaimosi Police Station have seized cannabis worth approximately Sh13.4 million after intercepting a sport utility vehicle (SUV) transporting the suspected narcotics in Nandi County.
The operation was carried out in Kaimosi, Nandi Central Sub-County, following a tip-off that a sky-blue Mazda CX-5 was being used to ferry a large consignment of cannabis along the Chavakali–Kapsabet Road.
Acting on the intelligence, officers mounted an ambush and successfully intercepted the vehicle.
A search of the SUV led to the recovery of seven sacks of cannabis weighing a combined 271.3 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of Sh13.4 million.
However, the driver and an accomplice managed to flee the scene before they could be arrested, abandoning the vehicle and its illicit cargo.
Police have since impounded the vehicle and the recovered cannabis as exhibits while investigations continue to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help in the fight against drug trafficking and other organised criminal activities.
