DNA tests have confirmed that body parts recovered from River Sagana belong to 32-year-old Lucy Wamaitha, who went missing in January during a work trip.

Police matched the DNA from the recovered remains to Wamaitha’s mother, Nancy Wambui.

“DNA samples were collected on February 12, and it has been confirmed that it was Lucy’s body parts that were retrieved from River Sagana on January 22. It is not even a whole body as we speak, only half the body, from the waist to the neck, with the hands and legs missing,” Wambui said.

Wamaitha, who worked for an NGO in Thika, traveled to Embu County on January 16 with her boss and a colleague for work but vanished the next day after being last seen having lunch in Embu town. Her phone was later switched off, and an intensive search led detectives to River Sagana, where her mutilated remains were found.

Police have arrested Wamaitha’s boss, who allegedly had conflicts with her before her disappearance. Reports indicate that Wamaitha had accused her boss of misusing donor funds meant for educating needy children.

The prime suspect is set to be arraigned in court on Monday to face murder charges.
