Police in Nyatike, Migori County, are searching for a 62-year-old man accused of defiling his 11-year-old daughter on two separate occasions.
According to area Chief Eunice Adongo, the suspect fled his home with his wife—who is also the mother of the minor—along with other family members after the matter was reported to her office.
Chief Adongo said the girl’s mother has defended the suspect, insisting on his innocence and expressing reluctance to cooperate with investigations for fear it could end her marriage. Both parents have since gone into hiding.
“The suspect went into hiding after learning that the case had reached my office and the police were pursuing him. Unfortunately, the girl’s mother also left with him, choosing not to support the investigation,” said Adongo.
She added that the minor has undergone medical tests and is currently in a safe space as authorities continue the search for her parents.
The incident has sparked concern among community members and children’s rights advocates, who are calling for swift justice and protection of the minor.
Police investigations are ongoing.
