An Easter Friday celebration ended in tragedy when two young men were electrocuted to death and a woman sustained serious injuries during a disco night at a nightclub in Ragama estate, Oyugis Town, Homa Bay County.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. as revelers danced in an open field inside the club, despite rainy conditions. Among the deceased was a minor identified as Antipus Odongo. The second victim, an adult male, has yet to be identified.
According to Oyugis West Sub-Location Assistant Chief Warren Omollo, the victims stepped on an exposed live wire from a generator that was powering the sound system. The wire, lying in waterlogged ground, proved fatal.
“The three individuals were dancing in the rain when they accidentally stepped on the live wire. Unfortunately, the two males died on the spot, while the lady suffered serious injuries,” Omollo said.
The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Rachuonyo South Sub-County Police Commander Philemon Saera confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway. Authorities have summoned the nightclub manager, the event organizer, and the person who hired the sound system for questioning.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where postmortem examinations will be conducted.
