Lodwar, Turkana County – November 11, 2025: Police are investigating a dramatic altercation between Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Loima Member of Parliament Protus Akujah at the Lodwar Airstrip’s VIP lounge, which left the facility in disarray and raised security concerns.
According to officials and witnesses, the confrontation occurred on November 9, 2025, when the two leaders—long-time political rivals—met at the airstrip while preparing to board a Skyward Express flight to Nairobi.
Verbal Exchange Turns Physical
Witnesses said that MP Akujah was already seated in the VIP waiting area when Governor Lomorukai arrived around 11 a.m. The situation quickly escalated after a verbal exchange turned into a physical fight.
Security officers and airstrip personnel intervened to separate the two leaders as the scuffle intensified. Sources told Sauce.co.ke that both men threw punches before being restrained by their aides and security staff.
Following the altercation, flight crew members warned that neither of the politicians would be allowed to board the plane if they continued to quarrel. The tension eventually subsided, and the two boarded the aircraft with their seats placed far apart.
Airstrip Left in Disarray
Officials at the Lodwar Airstrip confirmed that the aftermath of the scuffle included broken spectacles, shattered sunglasses, and blood-stained serviettes scattered across the VIP area.
Police sources said that both leaders are expected to record statements once they return to Turkana. They could face charges of creating a disturbance in a public place under Kenya’s Penal Code.
Authorities also noted that either party is free to pursue assault charges should they wish to escalate the matter legally.
Separate Murder Case in Turkana
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, police in Kanomeris village, Kokuro area of Turkana County, are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man. He was allegedly beaten to death by his father and uncle over a stolen goat.
The deceased, identified as Ekidor Ngirega, was reportedly accused of stealing a neighbour’s goat before being fatally assaulted by his relatives. The family then buried him in a shallow grave, police said.
Authorities plan to exhume the body for a postmortem and intend to file murder charges against the suspects, who remain at large as of Monday, November 10, 2025. Police are currently seeking a court order to authorize the exhumation and further investigation.
