Police in Machakos County are investigating claims by a businessman who reported that he was robbed of his licensed pistol and Sh570,000 during an alleged attack in the Kyumbi area on Christmas Day.

According to a police report, the businessman, who is a licensed firearm holder, told officers that he had visited his gas plant in the area and was leaving the premises when the incident occurred.

He claimed that his vehicle got stuck in a ditch, prompting him to alight and assess the situation. At that moment, a lone man riding a motorcycle allegedly approached him while armed with a gun.

The victim said the assailant pointed the firearm at him and ordered him to surrender the pistol he was carrying in a waist holster. The suspect is further alleged to have grabbed the businessman’s Glock pistol along with an envelope containing Sh570,000 that was inside the vehicle.

According to the complainant, the attacker then walked away and boarded a waiting motorcycle before fleeing the scene.

During the incident, the victim said the magazine of the pistol fell off. He later recovered it and presented it to police officers at Kyumbi Police Station.

Police said investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery and to trace the suspect.
