A 25-year-old man is fighting for his life at a private hospital in Ngurubani town, Mwea, after allegedly being stabbed in the chest by his uncle following a dispute over money.
The victim, identified as Geoffrey Murimi from Thiba North village, was reportedly attacked by his uncle, Daniel Warui, 47, during a confrontation linked to Ksh7,500 said to have been misused from proceeds of a leased rice farm.
According to family members, the dispute began after Warui leased half an acre of rice farmland for Ksh20,000. On Christmas Day, he allegedly took the remaining Ksh7,500 and spent it on alcohol and buying drinks at a local bar.
Speaking on behalf of the family, another uncle, Jackson Kibugi, said Geoffrey confronted Warui over the money, triggering a heated argument that later turned violent.
“The situation escalated after Geoffrey reported the issue to his grandmother, Jecinta Wanjira, who is 80 years old,” Kibugi said.
During the altercation, Warui is also accused of attacking his mother with the same kitchen knife, injuring two of her fingers, before fleeing the scene.
“We want justice. Geoffrey is in critical condition, and my mother was also assaulted,” Kibugi added, noting that the family reported the matter to Thiba Police Station, but no arrest had been made at the time of reporting.
Residents of Thiba North village said the suspect escaped shortly after the incident. One local resident, Peter Murimi, claimed he later spotted Warui in Ngurubani town.
“He even told the village in-charge that he had killed Geoffrey, which is why he was running away,” Murimi alleged.
Geoffrey remains hospitalised in critical condition as police continue investigations. The family has appealed to authorities to act swiftly and arrest the suspect to prevent further violence.
