Police in Naivasha are investigating a gruesome incident in which three men were lynched by a mob after being accused of leading robbery gangs in the area.

According to police, the mob rounded up the three men from their houses before subjecting them to brutal torture and stoning, ultimately killing them in Kayole village on Sunday morning. Their bodies were later set on fire, officers said.

Police were alerted to the incident after the killings had already occurred. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the mob had dispersed, leaving the bodies behind.

The remains were moved to a mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.

Authorities have launched investigations into the murders and condemned the act, reiterating that mob justice is a criminal offence.

Police urged members of the public to report suspected criminals to law enforcement agencies rather than taking the law into their own hands.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise in several parts of the country, raising concern among security agencies. Police say investigations are ongoing into all reported incidents.
