Renowned Nairobi-based barber Joseph Rutebeza, popularly known as Joseph Cutz, has revealed that American streamer IShowSpeed paid between KSh 2.6 million ($20,000) and KSh 6.4 million ($50,000) for a haircut during his recent visit to Kenya.

Speaking about the widely discussed grooming session, Joseph Cutz addressed online speculation surrounding the fee, saying the amount reflected the premium nature of the service and his standing in the industry.

“Joseph Cutz here, the baddest barber in town. I see a lot of people discussing this online. It could be between $20,000 and $50,000 for a haircut. I am the only barber in Nairobi who shaves more celebrities than anyone else,” he said.

Joseph, who has been a professional barber for over a decade, began his career in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, before relocating to Kenya. He currently operates a high-end barbershop in Lavington, where he serves a diverse clientele ranging from ordinary customers to politicians and celebrities.

He credits social media—particularly Instagram—for helping him grow his brand and attract high-profile clients.

Recalling how the opportunity came about, Joseph said he initially received a direct message from someone inquiring about his services and rates.

“I checked my DM and someone was asking about my work and my charges. Later, he asked if I could shave IShowSpeed,” he said.

Joseph soon realised the inquiry was coming from IShowSpeed’s manager, who insisted on strict discretion throughout the visit.

“He told me not to share anything until Speed had left the country, and I agreed,” Joseph explained.

When the streamer arrived in Kenya, Joseph was invited to the hotel where Speed and his team were staying. He described the experience as smooth and memorable.

“Speed is a very easy person. He was jovial the entire time, recording videos and posting them on his social media. He even encouraged me to take as many videos as I wanted,” Joseph said.

He added that the encounter marked a major milestone in his career, further cementing his reputation as one of Kenya’s most sought-after barbers.
