A man has surrendered to police in Zombe, Kitui County, after confessing to killing a woman in a grisly incident that occurred on Wednesday.

The suspect presented himself at Mwitika Police Post while armed with a blood-stained panga, telling officers that he had killed the woman in Kikuu village.

Police officers who visited the scene discovered the dismembered body of Elizabeth Kala, aged 50, lying in a pool of blood within her compound. Authorities said the deceased had sustained multiple deep cuts, with her head severed from the torso.

The suspect was immediately disarmed and placed in custody as investigations commenced. Police said he will undergo psychiatric evaluation before being arraigned in court.

The motive behind the killing has not yet been established.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder.
