A police corporal has died by suicide after shooting and critically injuring a female bar owner in a shocking incident that occurred at a local bar in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The shooting took place on January 1, prompting an immediate police investigation as authorities seek to establish the motive behind the deadly encounter.
Details of the Naivasha Shooting Incident
According to a preliminary report filed at Kongoni Police Station, the officer, identified as Corporal Collins Kochei, shot Lucy Wanjiru Njoroge, a 34-year-old bar owner, before turning the firearm on himself.
Corporal Kochei was attached to Tangi Tano Police Post, which falls under Munanda Police Station in Gilgil Sub-county.
Police reports indicate that the officer shot the woman multiple times, inflicting life-threatening gunshot wounds to both breasts and her right thigh.
Moments later, the officer reportedly shot himself in the chin, sustaining fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Victim in Critical Condition
Lucy Wanjiru Njoroge was rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital, where she remains in critical condition and is receiving intensive medical care.
Hospital sources say doctors are working to stabilize her condition as investigations continue.
