A building under construction collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, at the junction of Racecourse Road and Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi’s Central Business District, leaving at least six people injured.
The incident occurred near the OTC area in downtown Nairobi, where emergency services responded swiftly to rescue 12 workers who had been trapped in the debris. Police confirmed that 18 construction workers were on site at the time, and all individuals have now been accounted for following intensive rescue operations carried out by the Kenya Red Cross, Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, and other agencies.
The Kenya Red Cross reported that response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene after receiving news of the collapse along Kirinyaga Road. While the exact cause remains under investigation, the partial collapse has once again highlighted ongoing concerns about construction safety standards and night-time building work in Nairobi’s busy commercial zones.
Authorities are working to determine whether structural failure, material quality, or other factors contributed to the incident. No fatalities have been reported, and the injured workers have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Updates are expected as the investigation continues into this latest building collapse in Nairobi CBD.
