Businesswoman and former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has officially parted ways with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and announced her alignment with the emerging United Opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Omanga, a long-time UDA loyalist and vocal supporter of President William Ruto during the 2022 campaigns, however stopped short of revealing the political party under which she will contest. Instead, she openly declared support for key opposition figures, including Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, Jubilee Party’s Fred Matiang’i, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
She confirmed that she will once again seek the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat in 2027, a position she narrowly lost in the last general election.
Addressing her supporters, Omanga expressed gratitude to the Mt Kenya community for the support she received during the 2022 polls, noting that the backing played a major role in her decision to make another bid.
“I am so impressed with the Mt Kenya community because you gave me 600,000 votes in Nairobi in 2022. I fell short by a small margin, but this time, in 2027, I will be contesting again,” she said.
Omanga voiced confidence that the growing unity among opposition leaders would strengthen her chances, pointing to what she described as increasing political and ethnic cohesion across key regions.
Her defection marks a notable political shift and adds to the list of former UDA allies who have recently gravitated towards the opposition as early campaigns for the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
