Police in Kisumu County have launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to the murder of a night guard following a violent altercation in the Dunga area.
Night Guard Found Dead
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Thomas Egilaiza, was found lying on his back at the foot of a water tank near a residential site adjacent to Kiboko Bay.
Colleagues reportedly attempted to administer first aid after he sustained serious injuries, but he succumbed shortly after.
Dispute Turns Deadly
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from a confrontation between Egilaiza and a fellow security guard.
Police say the disagreement is believed to have been triggered by a dispute over a woman who had visited them at the site.
Nature of Injuries
Authorities revealed that the deceased suffered deep cuts to the forehead and back, allegedly inflicted using a stone recovered at the scene.
Investigators say the injuries are consistent with eyewitness accounts.
Final Moments
It is reported that after the attack, Egilaiza managed to walk from the lakeshore—where the fight initially broke out—to another location near the suspect’s residence.
He later collapsed and died as colleagues tried to assist him.
Suspect on the Run
The suspect, also a security guard, fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Police have since launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend him.
Body Moved for Postmortem
The body was transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Investigations Ongoing
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.
