Kenyan comedian and filmmaker Eddie Butita has opened up about his visit to the United States as part of a delegation that included President William Ruto, saying he has no regrets despite criticism from sections of the public.
Butita Describes Trip as Career-Defining Moment
Speaking during an interview with Jacquey Nyaminde on Milele FM, Butita described the trip as one of the biggest milestones in his entertainment career.
The comedian particularly highlighted his visit to Tyler Perry Studios as a life-changing experience.
“That was a high, high, high moment of my career… I would love to experience it again. God has given me so much,” Butita said.
Says Trip Opened International Opportunities
According to the filmmaker, the US visit connected him with influential players in the global film industry and created opportunities that continue to impact his production work.
He maintained that his participation in the delegation was purely professional and not politically motivated.
Responds to Online Criticism
Butita faced criticism online after the trip coincided with widespread debate and protests linked to the controversial Finance Bill in Kenya.
Addressing the backlash, the entertainer acknowledged that he also had concerns regarding the Finance Bill but insisted he could not reject such a major opportunity.
“That moment you asked me, and I will not regret it 100%. To go with William, President William Ruto, and Tyler Perry Studios,” he stated.
“The fact that they sat down and decided to make me an artist and be a part of this.”
Fans React Online
His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans defending his decision as a career move while others continue questioning celebrities who associated with the government during a politically tense period.
