Police in Rachuonyo North Sub-county have launched investigations into the death of a 17-year-old Form Four student in an incident believed to be suicide.
The student, who was the son of a police officer, was reported missing after leaving his home in Karairo Village, Kokwanyo, Rachuonyo East Sub-county, on Monday.
According to Peter Wallah, preliminary investigations suggest the incident may have followed a disagreement at home over a mobile phone.
Police said the student’s mother had reportedly taken away the phone after learning that his academic performance had declined.
The teenager was later found dead within the compound of Mawego National Polytechnic.
Investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the student went to the institution before his death.
Wallah urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to the emotional well-being of their children and to seek guidance and counselling whenever they notice signs of emotional distress or significant changes in behaviour.
The student’s body was moved to the mortuary at Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital pending further investigations.
