A police officer attached to Buruburu Police Station has been arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District after he was allegedly found in possession of property stolen from a fellow officer during the June 25 security deployment.

According to a police incident report, Police Constable Kuriyio Lentapa was arrested on the night of June 28 along Gaberon Road by officers from Central Police Station.

Police said the officer was found carrying assorted clothes and a bag belonging to fellow officer Police Constable Edwin Yegon.

Investigators established that the items had been reported stolen from the changing room at Central Police Station on June 24, 2026—one day before officers were deployed across Nairobi to reinforce security during the June 25 demonstrations.

Officer Suspected of Stealing Items to Fund Alcohol Habit

According to police sources, investigators suspect the officer, who is alleged to struggle with alcohol addiction, may have intended to sell the stolen belongings to finance his drinking habit.

The report further indicates that he appeared intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

Police took the suspect into custody, where he remains detained at Central Police Station as investigations continue.

Authorities say he is expected to face charges related to stealing and handling stolen property once investigations are complete.
