A suspected burglar was shot dead by police in a botched break-in at the residence of Prof Daniel Oruoch in Dudi area, Khwisero, Kakamega County, on Monday night.
According to police reports, the deceased was part of a group of unknown individuals who attempted to break into the professor’s home when officers responded to the scene.
Police managed to fatally shoot one suspect during the confrontation, while the rest of the suspected accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness.
In the course of the operation, one police officer was accidentally injured. This is after his AK47 rifle accidentally discharged bullet hitting him in the left knee, police said.
The officer is currently receiving treatment as investigations continue to track down the escaped suspects and determine the motive behind the attempted burglary.
