Fresh and disturbing details have emerged regarding the tragic double homicide involving a police officer and two women, in what investigators suspect was a deadly love triangle gone wrong in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County.

Married Mother of Two Killed in Cold Blood

The primary victim, identified as Joy, was a married mother of two from Machakos County. According to her family, Joy left her home claiming she was heading to work in Kitengela, only to end up in Kanyonyoo, where her life was cut short.

Joy’s grieving husband, James, and their two children—a Form Three student and a Grade Six pupil—are struggling to cope with the news. “We are devastated. She said she was going to Kitengela for work, not to meet someone,” said James.

Family Seeks Justice Over Kitui Police Shooting

Speaking to the press, the victim’s mother-in-law, Waema, expressed disbelief and sorrow:

“We’ve never had any problems with her. We don’t understand how things ended up like this, or why this officer killed my son’s wife.”

Joy’s father-in-law, Jonathan, further questioned the professionalism and training of the officer:

“She was shot so many times. What kind of police training teaches someone to do that?”

What Witnesses Saw: A Violent Confrontation

According to local witnesses, the police officer—believed to be Joy’s suspected lover—tracked her to her friend Jane Ndanu’s house, where she had spent the night. An argument ensued and quickly escalated.

“The officer wanted to beat up Joy, but her friend Jane tried to protect her. That’s when he opened fire and killed them both,” said a witness identified as Stanley.

The officer reportedly fired multiple rounds from his AK-47 rifle before fleeing the scene. His weapon was later found abandoned in a nearby bush. Authorities are actively pursuing him and urging the public to assist with any leads.

Hidden Affair Allegations Surface

It has now emerged that Joy might have traveled to Kanyonyoo to meet the officer. The  allegedly had a romantic affair. This revelation has shocked her family, who were unaware of any such involvement.

Community in Shock, Demands Accountability

The shocking double murder has rocked the Kanyonyoo community and reignited calls for better psychological evaluation and accountability mechanisms for police officers in Kenya.

This case follows a pattern of deadly violence involving police officers and their intimate partners, which has been raising alarm across the country. In July, another similar case was reported, highlighting a troubling trend within law enforcement ranks.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is expected to launch a full investigation into the matter. For the latest updates on this and other trending news stories in Kenya, check our Latest News page.
