Nairobi, Kenya – Detectives are investigating a brutal murder in Pangani, Nairobi, where a 37-year-old woman was stabbed before her body was set on fire inside her eighth-floor apartment.
The victim has been identified as Shelmic Wambui Muratha, a resident of Boma Yangu Estate along Kinshasa Road. According to Kenya Police, the incident occurred after the assailant broke into her home, fatally attacked her, and attempted to destroy evidence by starting a fire.
Body Found With Stab Wounds and Burn Marks
Neighbours reported seeing smoke billowing from Wambui’s apartment before emergency responders arrived. Police officers forced the door open and quickly contained the fire, only to discover her lifeless body lying on the floor with severe burn marks and blood stains.
Upon closer inspection, investigators noted multiple stab wounds to her chest. The house appeared ransacked, leading police to suspect the killer may have been searching for valuables or documents before setting the fire to cover their tracks.
Assailant Still at Large
Police confirmed that only a few clothes and a mosquito net were destroyed in the blaze, indicating the fire was deliberately set but quickly contained. The suspect had already fled the scene by the time authorities arrived.
The body was moved to the city mortuary for autopsy, while detectives continue to follow multiple leads. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the arrest of the suspect.
