Panic briefly gripped Kowet Police Post in Siaya Sub-County on Tuesday morning after a large snake slithered into the station’s report office, disrupting normal operations.
According to a police incident report filed at Siaya Police Station, the reptile entered the premises at around 8:00 a.m. while officers were on duty and members of the public were present.
Snake Emerged From Nearby Bush
Police said two constables on duty spotted the snake as it emerged from a nearby bush and crawled into the report office, triggering alarm within the station.
Witnesses described the reptile as unusually large, with a distinctive skin pattern that officers said resembled jungle camouflage, making it difficult to immediately identify the species.
The unexpected intrusion caused officers and civilians to momentarily vacate the area as efforts were made to contain the situation.
Officers, Residents Subdue Reptile
Police officers, working together with nearby residents, managed to subdue and kill the snake at the scene to prevent potential harm.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.
KWS Notified
Following the incident, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers in Siaya were notified. The officers documented the occurrence and collected the snake’s carcass for examination and archival purposes.
Police said the matter was handled as a safety precaution, noting that snake sightings occasionally occur in the area due to nearby bushes and undeveloped land.
Public Urged to Stay Alert
Authorities have urged residents living near bushy areas to remain vigilant and promptly report any sightings of dangerous wildlife to local authorities or KWS officers.
