Kitengela, Kenya – August 8, 2025 : A police officer based in Kitengela has died after allegedly being thrown off a fourth-floor apartment balcony in a tragic love triangle gone wrong. A fellow officer and a woman are in police custody following the incident.
Suspected Domestic Dispute
On Thursday night, someone discovered Police Constable Manasseh Ithiru (Service No. 90879), attached to Kitengela Police Station, dead in a pool of blood at Geoffrey Flats, located off Deliverance Road, roughly 3 kilometers south of the police post.
Bodaboda rider Evans Barasa reported the incident under OB No. 136/07/08/2025 at 11:15 p.m., stating that he had dropped off Ithiru at the apartment around 7 p.m. and was scheduled to pick him up later.
Visit to Girlfriend Ends in Fatal Confrontation
Investigators revealed that the officer had gone to visit his girlfriend, Irene Wavinya Nzioka, a 27-year-old woman residing in room 416 of the same building. However, shortly after Ithiru arrived, Sergeant Abubakar Said (Service No. 232870), a police officer attached to the CIPU EPZ Camp in Athi River, also turned up at the apartment.
Allegedly, the same woman romantically involved both men. Witnesses believe that a violent confrontation broke out inside the house, during which someone reportedly threw Ithiru from the balcony, causing him to fall to his death.
Such intimate partner violence cases are on the rise in Kenya, as documented by FIDA Kenya.
Crime Scene Processed by CSI Team
Police officers and DCI Kitengela personnel rushed to the scene. They found Ithiru’s lifeless body lying in a supine position in the apartment’s parking lot. The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team processed and documented the scene, confirming that the deceased suffered multiple injuries, including severe head trauma.
They transferred the body to Shalom Community Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.
Two Suspects in Police Custody
Police have since arrested Sergeant Abubakar Said and Irene Wavinya Nzioka.
Authorities are holding them in custody while they assist detectives with the investigations. The incident falls under PBC (Police-Based Crime), and DCI Kitengela is currently handling the case.
The National Police Service Commission’s internal guidelines mandate that officers involved in serious crimes face swift action. IPOA may also independently review investigations if there are suspicions of misconduct or abuse of power.
